  • Hello Guy, I wanted to give you some preventative info for the Grinder packages that we sold the town of Wareham. Although these are grinder pumps, the home owners should not be flushing anything but toilet paper down the drain. Things like baby wipes, feminine products, dental floss or clorox counter wipes will jam up these pumps and potentially burn these pumps out. These are some of the things we have pulled out of the pumps in your town. These systems are mechanical and need to be taking care of like any other mechanical things like your car or lawnmowers. Grease is another product that messes with these systems. When put down the drain the grease will float on top of the water and get almost as hard as concrete. This messes with the controls and may not turn the pump on and off as needed, I hope this info helps you. If you need any other info feel free to e-mail me. Thanks Jae

The Town of Wareham, along with Bourne, Plymouth, Marion and Mass Maritime Academy are promoting the concept "regionalization". The goal is to move the outflow pipe of the WPCF, (Wareham treatment plant) to the Cape Cod Canal. This will allow more flow to the plant that will address the sewer needs of the region; reducing the nitrogen and phosphorus to the bays and continued growth of the region. Environmental needs and Economic needs. One of the questions is: Can we recharge the water shed (drinking water) with the effluent discharge ( from treated wastewater), decreasing the amount of effluent to the surface water body (ocean or river)? Water is the sustainer of life, valuable to all! Cleaning the soiled water and putting it back to the source, along with conservation may give us drinking water for years to come! Think about it...

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaXth88i7rk&feature=player_detailpage Follow the flow after you flush your toilet, this video is following the flow in Detroit, however the principle is the same in Wareham. Please watch and enjoy!

We are adding an oxidizer to the basin to reduce the sulfides developed over the summer from lack of air. Increase flow to the plant, add communication between the 3 main pump stations to the plant so only one pumps at a time to damper the peaks to the plant from all 3 pumping at the same time with the goal of minimizing what goes to the basin. We hope to have the pump stations communicating by the end of February 2016. We are developing a venture system that will allow us to mix the basin and add dissolved oxygen with out air bubbles breaking the surface and allowing odor to escape the basin, allowing full utilization of the basin cover. We are addressing the issue on a daily basin and realize the importance of odor mitigation. Venturi is on line. Pump stations have SCAD added, communication radio towers are up and we are now connecting to the SCAD main frame at plant. We have cleaned back basin and cleaning front basin today ( Nov. 3)

https://youtu.be/IN-K22_D6jI The same practices can apply to your home. According to the DEP the flow from each single family home can contain up to 14% grease. Please call 508-295-6144 and a grease policy(S14-01) will be sent out immediately. Highlights: Required to have contract with grease hauler (registered with Wareham B.O.H.) all external traps once every 3 months (monthly if required) and pump if F.O.G. is greater then 25% of effective depth of the trap. Under sink interceptor/traps must be cleaned and maintained once a month. Properly train staff on Best Management Practice(s). $50.00 plan review fee on new and renovated establishments, and $100.00 annual inspection fee. The goal, through proper education and cooperation, is to reduce Fats, Oil and Grease into the treatment and collection system.

We are in the beginning stages of the Swifts Beach rehab 1600 feet of AC 8" gravity main. Will update as we go. We are starting our air quality testing program this week. Tech Environmental will be on site Wednesday. We are also starting the hydrogen sulfide testing program at our pump stations to begin a treatment program for odors and corrosion. November 3, 2016 we will clean front basin, bleach and leave off line. We have put cleaned back basin on line. Within the next two weeks we will empty the Aeration basin for rehabilitation.
